Captain’s Column: My ‘Ones To Watch’ In The Derby

header

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all safe and well and I’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

With so much happening this year it’s great we’ll be able to enjoy the festive period with our families and loved ones and enjoy some sense of normality. 2020 really has had it all!

Speaking of normal, there’s nothing normal about our opening match of the 2020/21 season.

Until only a few days ago we were set for a huge Grand Final rematch against Melbourne City, with revenge firmly on our minds. Now, it’s an even bigger match to kick things off. A Sydney Derby at Bankwest Stadium on Wednesday, December 30th, what a start!

Last season’s encounters against the Wanderers were polar opposites. We weren’t at our best in our first meeting against them at Bankwest Stadium, but in the return leg at Cromer Park everything fell into place and a 3-0 win was just reward for all our hard work and endeavour throughout the season.

The last time we played the Wanderers in the opening match of the season it was a similar story, three goals to the Sky Blues at Marconi Stadium and a solid start to what would be our Championship winning campaign.

Expect the same next Wednesday in Parramatta! We’ve had a fantastic pre-season, our new players have fitted in seamlessly and I think we’ve got a really exciting season in store.

Keep an eye out for some of our youngsters coming through the ranks. Rachel Lowe, Clare Wheeler, Charlize Rule, the list goes on. We’ve got a great squad on paper and it’s now time to show that on the pitch.

I’m looking forward to playing in front of our fantastic Members and fans again and I hope to see a wall of Sky Blue next week to cheer us on to the perfect start.

Sydney FC Westfield W-League Captain
