Captain’s Column: Alex Brosque On The Week Ahead

header

Three wins in a row at Jubilee Stadium and we’re all pleased with our new home at Kogarah this season.

Training sessions have been tough and we’ve been working over-time to ensure we’re in peak condition with the amount of games coming up. January is always a busy period, the games are coming thick and fast, and it’s not going to stop when the AFC Champions League kicks off.

The heat has seen us start our sessions earlier this week but that’s ok, we’re still putting in the hard yards and leaving no stone un-turned as we look to improve on our performances each week.

Last week you saw our defensive capabilities, how strong we can be as a unit and that’s something we want to uphold for the rest of the season.

Going forward with the ball we’re going to get even better, once we start putting away all the chances that present themselves, we’ll overrun teams easily.

Speaking of chances, I guess I should have chipped Izzo at the weekend, I thought I’d go for the neat volley but that didn’t come off, that’s football though and you never stop learning. It was also refreshing to come off the bench at the weekend, my body is feeling good and I’m confident of competing at home and abroad in Asia at the back end of the season.

It’s been great seeing Rhyan Grant excel with the Socceroos, no doubt those two starts will add to his confidence when he returns with us and we look forward seeing him in the knockout stages, everyone here wishes them well and look forward to bringing that Cup back home.

Off the field, the Christmas period with my family was good, I got to spend time with them where in previous years we’ve had a game or training, it was a nice period and one that always leaves you in good spirits for the year ahead.

2019 is going to be a big year for Sydney FC and I’m looking forward to it.

We’ve started off well and we need to keep building on that now, starting with three points against the Newcastle Jets at Jubilee Stadium on Saturday.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Stadium painted Sky Blue with all our fantastic Members and fans, and I’m confident we’ll enjoy more success this weekend.
