Caceres Lauds Big Game Experience

Sydney FC star Anthony Caceres believes the Sky Blues won’t be overawed in Sunday’s Grand Final, with the squad brimming with big game experience.

With the majority of the Sky Blues’ squad having featured in the 2019 decider, Caceres said it’ll be business as usual for the club expected to win everything.

“It’s same old Sydney FC,” he said.

“We’re aware of the expectations placed on us at all times and that’s to win everything. We find ourselves again in a Grand Final, that was a goal of ours to begin with and we’ll carry on as normal.

“It’s just another game at the end of the day but we understand the importance of it and we’re in with a chance to make history. We’ll be ready no doubt.

“I try not to overthink it, take it as a normal week really, make sure we’re doing everything right.

“It’s obviously a shorter turn around so recovery is key. Nothing changes and if we perform like we know we can then everything will be alright.

“It’s just about winning. To add another piece of silverware to the collection is what it’s all about.”

Caceres has been one of the standout players since the resumption of the league in July, but heralded the entire squad for his performances, with the midfielder particularly pleased with how Wednesday’s Semi-Final played out.

“I feel I’ve played my part but it’s easy when you’re a part of a good team with a good group of players,” Caceres said.

“Competition for places is always high so you have to make sure you’re always performing and drive the standards.

“Previous to the Semi results weren’t what we wanted but the performances were quite good and just lacking in key moments. We’ve got back to what we want in the Semis and there’s one game to go.

“We came away from the game [the Semi-Final] very happy and pleased with our performance,” he continued.

“I felt we dominated from the get go and can take a lot of confidence from that performance in a Semi-Final.

“The mood has been high and we’re just looking to carry that into the weekend’s Grand Final.”

Sydney FC face Melbourne City in the Hyundai A-League 2020 Grand Final at Bankwest Stadium on Sunday 30th August (kick off 6:30pm AEST).
