Sydney FC star Trent Buhagiar believes he’s returned to the Sky Blues an even better player following his exploits in qualifying for the Olympics with the Olyroos in Thailand this month.

Buhagiar returns to the Sky Blues’ squad for Friday night’s clash at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium against Brisbane Roar, and said his body is feeling good as he gets set for his first Hyundai A-League encounter since December 2019.

“I’m ready and if [Head Coach] Steve [Corica] wants me back in the squad I will be, I’ll be ready for it,” he said.

“I was away for a month, it’s mentally tough going away for those tournaments, it makes you stronger as well, it’s really good.

“The body is feeling good at the moment, I’m just easily working back into it and building for that game on Friday.

“It was good to be called back into the [Olyroos] squad again after a year out,” he continued.

“We went there to do a job, that was to make the Olympics, we did that and now we look forward to it.

“It’s a great group of boys, there’s a lot of talent in that squad and it’s really exciting to see what we can do in the Olympics.”

The last time Buhagiar faced the Roar he scored his first Sydney FC Hyundai A-League goal, and the 21-year-old is eyeing off scoring again when the Queenslanders arrive in Kogarah.

“The last game against Brisbane was really good, hopefully the boys can be up by a few goals and I’ll come on again and do the same thing as last time,” he said.

“It was a massive relief to score on my return. To do all that hard work in the time off I had, and then to be rewarded like that it was really good.

“I just want to keep on building, the boys are doing really good at the moment, flying high at the top of the table and I’m just here to do my part and do what I can for the club.”

Sydney FC face the Brisbane Roar at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Friday night following an exciting Foxtel Y-League Grand Final at 4:30pm AEDT. Grab your tickets and be there for a thrilling evening of action.
