Bolger Pleased With Club’s Fortunes

Sydney FC’s Nicola Bolger says the whole squad are looking forward to working under new Head Coach Dan Barrett after he assumed his first match in charge at the weekend against the Newcastle Jets.

The Sky Blues prevailed in a dogged display 1-0 thanks to a fifth goal in as many games to Jasmyne Spencer, and Bolger was upbeat about the club continuing their undefeated start to the Westfield W-League 2014 season.

“It was a really tough match,” Bolger said.

“We knew it was going to be hard considering Jets are playing well and in good form. We didn’t play our best and there is a lot to take out of the game for us to work on, I think we are just pleased that we got the three points.

“Dan has slotted back into the team great, we know him well and he knows all of us,” she continued.

“I think he has a lot to offer to our team and myself and the girls are looking forward to working with him for the rest of the season.

“Being undefeated at this point of the season is always a positive. Although there is still a long way to go, plenty of tough games and a lot of hard work if we want to continue to win games and finish in the top four. The league is as tight as ever and every game is crucial to get points.”

The Sky Blues play away to the Perth Glory on Saturday (kick off 6pm AEDT) in a top of the table clash and Bolger knows Sydney FC will have their work cut out for them as they come up against a side who have scored 20 goals for only four in reply.

“This weekend’s game against Perth will definitely be our toughest so far,” she said.

“The travel will make things a little more difficult and we will be missing one or two players which isn’t an excuse, but we need to improve a few specifics and be at our best in order to compete with a team who has several threats across the park and is in great form.

“We have confidence in ourselves and there is great team morale this season,” she continued.

“I just think we need to continue to work hard and improve in order to match the top teams, week in and out. There are no easy games this year at all.”
