The race for the finals is on in the W-League, and Sydney FC midfielder Nicola Bolger knows every point is precious.

Sydney take on bottom-club Newcastle Jets on Sunday, and with three games remaining there are still six teams fighting it out for four finals spots.

“We can’t really afford to lose. The points are really important,” said Bolger.

“When they [Newcastle] play Sydney it’s such a different game and a rivalry so it won’t be easy by any means. It’ll be a very important game for us to try and get the three points.”

“Winning or losing can really affect the table – we were second and have a loss and drop back to fifth, so we’ve just gotta try and get as many points as we can from the remaining games.”

Like many of her teammates this season, Bolger will come up against her former club this weekend, but insists it will just be added motivation to play well.

“It’s just one of the incentives to play well and have a good game,” she said.

“Sydney is my local team so when the opportunity came to come back it’s definitely what I wanted to do.”

The youngster was involved in Sydney’s amazing 7-5 loss to Perth at the weekend, and despite the result, believes it showcased the attacking firepower the team can draw on in the race to the finals.

“We can take some positives out of it because we scored good goals.”

“I think the second half showcased how good both teams’ attacks are, so we knew it could go either way.”

Sydney FC’s next home game should be a Christmas Cracker. Another derby against local rivals Central Coast Mariners over the holiday period on December 27th. Get your tickets now from Ticketek and enjoy some sizzling A-League Summer Football!!!
