Barrett Out To Silence Noisy Neighbours

Sydney FC’s Westfield W-League Head Coach Dan Barrett says he’s out to silence the Wanderers supporters on Sunday as the Sky Blues girls compete in the Sydney Derby at Pirtek Stadium (kick off 2pm).

The Sky Blues girls will take on the Western Sydney Wanderers in their first televised game of the season and Barrett said he’s been eagerly awaiting this fixture ever since the draw was released in September.

“Derbies are always special,” Barrett said.

“When the draw comes out I always look for this fixture. The battle for Sydney has definitely intensified in the women’s game just like the men and no team will want to lose.

“It’s a Derby so there is not much motivation needed. The girls will be training hard and focusing on a positive performance.

“Obviously I’m sure their supporters will be vocal but we hope to silence them with a much improved performance this Sunday.”

Barrett is hopeful of welcoming back Westfield Matildas trio Alanna Kennedy, Amy Harrison and Kyah Simon for the clash as he said if the girls stick to the fundamentals then they’ll achieve their goal of finals football in season 2015/16.

“We have to get the back and assess how their bodies are feeling, but it’s nice to have them returning for this big clash,” Barrett said.

“If they are fit, than they definitely come into contention for selection.

“The Wanderers squad is full of running and make you work extremely hard for everything,” he continued.

“They have some key players we will have to be wary of for sure but I feel we just need to get back to sticking to our principles of play, this is key to our success and has been for the past seasons of the W-League.

“If we commit to this then we have a good chance of getting the job done on Sunday and nothing has changed regarding finals football, we are working hard towards achieving this.”
