The last time Sydney FC met the Wanderers, Daniel Barrett was a new addition sitting on the sidelines. On Sunday he leads the girls into the derby as Head Coach looking to continue the Sky Blues charge towards the semi-finals.
At the halfway stage of the season Sydney FC have only suffered the one defeat, a tight 1-0 loss to the first place Perth Glory at the weekend, however Barrett is confident the Sky Blues will bounce back against their cross city rivals on Sunday.
“I’m confident that the result against Perth will have no bearing on this week,” Barrett said.
“This is a new opportunity and new opponent. Looking back at the video from the match against Perth we should have scored on more than one occasion and some of our opportunities we created came from some good football played by the girls.
“I’ll be looking for more of the same this week but with a win,” he continued.
“We are expecting a tough encounter though. Wanderers are always up for this match and they have some good players who can hurt you if you are not on 100%.”
While the Sky Blues hold a 100% record against the Wanderers in the Westfield W-League, Barrett is not concerned with statistics and is instead focused on attaining as many points as possible in the remaining six rounds.
“I’m not focused too much on any records,” he said.
“Its simple, it’s a derby we want to win but this team’s culture is to try and win every week and if this is our attitude then this record will stand.
“Obviously every team wants to make the finals and we are no different,” he continued.
“We start every season planning on being there on the final day and if we can be more consistent in our performances than I will be very happy and we will be on our way to achieving our goals.”
