Barrett Calls For Large Backing At ANZ

Sydney FC Westfield W-League Head Coach Dan Barrett has called for a large backing from supporters as he prepares to coach the first ever Westfield W-League match at ANZ Stadium against the Newcastle Jets on Saturday.

The Sky Blues W-League clash with Newcastle Jets was moved to ANZ Stadium to become a double header with the Hyundai A-League match between the two sides that evening with the rescheduled match kicking off at 2pm, LIVE by FOX Sports and ABC TV.

Barrett said he’s expecting a tough encounter against a Jets side vying with the Sky Blues for finals football with third and fourth place still up for grabs with only two rounds remaining.

“Playing the Jets is never easy you just have to look at matches from the past,” Barrett said.

“History shows that they are always tight affairs and this weekend I’ll be expecting no different with so much to play for.

“Being the curtain raiser to our A-League side is always great,” he continued.

“It gives our team great exposure as many Sydney FC Members and fans get the opportunity to see us play. We are really looking forward to it and hope to see as much support as possible.”

The draw changes reflect the outstanding success of the Hyundai A-League / Westfield W-League double headers throughout the 2015/16 season, which has given elite women’s football increased exposure both in attendance and broadcast.

“The double headers have been a tremendous initiative this year and we are pleased to be able to schedule two more over the final two rounds of the season,” said Head of the Hyundai A-League Damien de Bohun.

“It has given women’s football a well-deserved boost through increased attendance and broadcast exposure and it has also given fans attending A-League matches extra value for money.

“I’d like to thank the clubs, players, broadcast partners and venues for working with us to lock in these two double headers.”
