Sydney FC recorded a second pre-season win defeating St. George City FA 3-0 at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium this evening.

Moments That Mattered:

  1. Le Fondre Goal – 24’ – Le Fondre taps home after Zullo volleys a ball back across the face of goal having been played in by Ninkovic.
  2. Barbarouses Goal 45’ – Kosta latches onto a flicked header from a long ball to lift a volley over the stranded Davis outside his box.
  3. Ivanovic Goal 62’ – Ivanovic was played clear on goal by Baumjohann and he held off his defender to slot home easily past the keeper.

Sydney FC have secured a second consecutive pre-season win thanks to a first goal for the club from Kosta Barbarouses, a fourth in two matches from Luke Ivanovic and an opening goal for the season from Adam Le Fondre.

Meanwhile Alex Baumjohann also made another impression laying on another assist, with Michael Zullo getting his first 45 minutes of the campaign underneath his belt.

Sydney FC leave for China on Saturday morning where they meet giants of world football Paris St. Germain next Tuesday night in a friendly in Suzhou, before returning to face an FFA Cup tie against Brisbane Roar at Leichhardt Oval the following week.

Rhyan Grant Turn His Marker Inside

What they said:

Kosta Barbarouses:- “I felt pretty good out there, we faced a different problem with the opposition setting up a little bit defensively and a bit deeper, so we had to find some other solutions and we got some good work in the legs today.

“It was great (to score his first goal), it’s only been a couple of games but it’s always good to get that first one which builds confidence ahead of our really exciting game against PSG and the big cup game against Brisbane too.”

Steve Corica:- “There were a lot of positives out of the game, a lot of the boys got 75 minutes tonight and we scored three very good goals.

“They made it difficult for us tonight as they defended very well but we’ll come up against teams who play a back five and four in midfield, so it’s about breaking them down and tonight we did it.

“Each game we’re getting better and the boys have been working hard at training so they’re probably a little bit heavy but overall it was a good performance.”
