Sydney FC Assistant Coach Ufuk Talay has been given permission to terminate the final year of his contract to take up a Head Coach role at another Hyundai A-League club next season.
Talay will remain with the Sky Blues until the completion of this season’s Hyundai A-League and the Round of 16 in AFC Champions League competition.
“Ufuk has performed very well for us and has been rewarded with the offer of a Head Coach role elsewhere,” said Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica.
“It shows there are huge opportunities to develop within the Sydney FC set-up and the high-esteem in which coaching positions at this club are held.
“The chance to be a Head Coach in this league doesn’t come up too often and Uffie has always indicated his desire to move up to that level, so we’ve agreed to allow him to go,” Corica concluded.
43-year old Talay joined Sydney FC last year having previously spent time coaching the Young Socceroos.
“I’ve had the best year of my coaching career here in Sydney and I am thankful to have been given this opportunity to develop as much as I have,” said Talay.
“This step-up to a Head Coaching job would not have been possible without the help and support of Sydney FC, so I would like to thank everyone at the club for that.
“Now my focus is solely on repaying that faith by helping the club to another Hyundai A-League title and progression to our best ever AFC Champions League finish.”
Sydney FC head to the Korea Republic this morning to meet Ulsan Hyundai in game five of their AFC Champions League group stage campaign.
