Sydney FC are set to play host to an Arsenal FC first with their new $90 million record signing Alexandre Lacazette in line to make his Gunners’ debut against the Sky Blues at ANZ Stadium on Thursday 13 July (kick off 7:30pm).

The French International, previously of Ligue 1 club Lyon, joins the Gunners in an eye watering deal, eclipsing the club’s previous record paid for Mesut Özil for his transfer from Real Madrid in 2013.

The 13 time English Champions confirmed in a statement that their new forward would be amongst the players travelling down under, as Arsenal play in Sydney for the first time in 40 years.

“Lacazette is expected to travel with the tour party to Sydney this weekend and is likely to make his home debut in the Emirates Cup on July 29 or July 30,” it read on Arsenal.com.

Lacazette leaves his birth nation with 100 goals in 203 appearances for Lyon, and boasts a number of team and personal accolades including being named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year three times and being named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in season 2014/15.

Arsenal FC Manager Arsene Wenger said he was delighted with Lacazette’s signing.

“We are very happy to have Alexandre join our group,” Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.

“He has shown over a number of years that he can score goals and that he is a very efficient finisher.

“As well, he has very interesting technical qualities and a strong character. So he is a guy who is a great addition for us, and someone who will help us challenge at the top level this season.”
