Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold said he's devastated that he’s lost young striker Corey Gameiro to a ruptured his ACL while on international duty this week.
Gameiro suffered the injury in the final match of a Four Nations Tournament in China with the Olyroos, and will now miss the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season, however Arnold believes he has the will to return even better than before.
“Bad news is that Corey Gameiro has done his ACL,” Arnold said.
“I think he lasted 10 or 15 minutes. The kid is absolutely devastated.
“I’m confident Corey will come back even stronger than before, he’s got the mental strength to do that, but it’s could be a long layoff and I just wish him a speedy recovery.”
The Olyroo had a scan this morning to determine the extent of the injury and Arnold said it was a disappointment to lose a striker of his capability ahead of Sydney FC’s clash against Melbourne City on Saturday night (kick off 7:30pm).
“He had a scan this morning and the doctor confirmed he'd ruptured his ACL,” he said
“The medical staff at the FFA rang me straight after the game and they were 80% certain.
“I don’t know how it happened, I just got the call, but we’ve got the depth and we’ve got the cover so we’ll get on with it but it’s sad for the kid.
“It’s a big loss because the kid was doing so well. He was scoring goals and working hard and he was having a very good season after a bad season last year so it’s devastating.”
