Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold has guaranteed a passionate display for the Sky Blues season opener at Allianz Stadium against Melbourne City on Saturday (kick off 7:30pm).
Arnold said he’s trying to keep the players calm ahead of kick off with nerves starting to set in before his first game in charge of Sydney FC but he’s confident that Members and fans will be impressed with the football on offer on Saturday night.
“Every coach stands here today and has the same intentions to be successful and win the league,” Arnold said.
“I’ve inherited 75% of the squad and I’ll work hard to make them better so that come Saturday, although it’s the first of 27, we can go on to win it and impress our fans.
“One thing I’ll guarantee for sure though, is that when we go out there on Saturday we’ll fight for the shirt,” he continued.
“I can feel the butterflies gaining, the excitement in the stomach. We’ve had a great preseason and I know the players are extremely excited but the main thing I can do is keep them calm and keep the emotions in check and just look forward to the start of the season.”
Arnold has called for passion in the stands as well as he urged the Sydney FC Members and Fans to turn out in droves and back the Sky Blues to victory each and every game they play.
“The fans are important every weekend,” he said.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of The Cove and all the families and fans and I really hope that they can be our 12th man this year.
“The players will not always have their best performances and their best games but with the 12th man they can give them that extra drive to get the win that we need.”
