Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold said he’s close to finalising the signature of a new player as he prepares to face the Newcastle Jets at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Saturday (kick off 7:30pm).
With a number of injuries in the squad, Arnold confirmed that the arrival of a new player is not far off as he looks to re-establish two players for each position in his team.
“We’re a long way down the path with an international player who has a good pedigree,” he said.
“We’re just waiting for the final tick on that as an injury replacement so if that happens we’ll be very happy.
“He’s number 6, a defensive midfielder,” he continued.
“Dimitrijevic and Antonis have done a great job in there but they’re two attacking minded players so I need someone in there to add a bit of bite into the midfield.”
While one signature is close, Arnold said that it would be far from the last one as he hinted that he had his eye on a number of other players to fill the remaining positions in the team.
“We’ve got two foreign positions up,” he said.
“We’ve got four players out for the season so we’re trying to get another international player, another foreign player and another Australian player.
“That will try to give us a bit of extra depth and extra bodies and be back to where we were in preseason with two players for each position and every day is a challenge for the players to push each other.”
