Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold said he’s not too focussed on Melbourne City ahead of their clash against the Victorians on Saturday night (kick off 7:30pm).
The Sky Blues face John Van’t Schips’ City at AAMI Park, with Sydney FC chasing a fifth consecutive clean sheet, and Arnold said the goals will start flowing as he’s pleased with the chances the Sky Blues have been creating of late.
“I only look at the opposition 20% at this moment and focus more on ourselves,” Arnold said.
“We’re expecting a tough contest but we’re confident in our own ability and we just look at ourselves mainly.
“We’re creating chances and it’s just down to the individual putting the ball in the back of the net and we have quality players that will do that and can do that,” he continued.
“We’ve got nearly everyone fit and I’m sure that will come. If we can capitalise on the chances we’re creating ourselves then we’re moving along very nicely.”
Arnold said he’d shaken things up at training this week in a bid to expunge the slow first half starts in recent games, and the former Socceroos coach is hopeful that an increase in intensity will see Sydney FC firing from the very first minute.
“We’ve increased intensity on the first two days back,” he said.
“The first day back after the day off in the past, and since I’ve been here, hasn’t been that intense but we’ve now thrown in an intense session on the first day back and a tactical session as well to work on what we didn’t do well in the game before.
“We’ve just changed things around a little bit after consulting with the older players on what they feel and how they felt during the game and how they like the training program to run.”
