Antonis Targeting More Goals

While he admits he doesn’t score many for the club, when he does they are always spectacular and Terry Antonis’ strike on Sunday afternoon was no different.

Picking the ball up off a set piece routine Antonis rifled the ball into the far corner of the net from distance, and the Socceroo is hopeful of adding strikes like that to his repertoire as he praised the squad for their dominant display against the Central Coast Mariners.

“I just hit it and it just went in,” Antonis said.

“I was pretty pleased. I don’t really score that many goals so I’ve just got to keep going. I just practice at training and hopefully they come through in the game.

“The boys are playing really well and we’re pLaying really strong and we’ve just got to keep going,” he continued.

“We trained really hard in the preseason and we set our goals and that was the main thing.”

Next up for Sydney FC is a trip to Coopers Stadium to play Adelaide United and Antonis is expecting another tough encounter after their Westfield FFA Cup quarter final clash in October.

“They’re a tough opponent,” Antonis said

“They’ve been playing really well, they’re on a roll and they’ve got a lot of confidence at the moment so we have to go out there and play our best.”

After missing out on October’s selection through injury, Antonis said he was hopeful of again being selected for the Socceroos with the AFC Asian Cup on home soil on the horizon.

“I think everyone wants to play for their country and of course I want to,” he said.

“I just have to keep working for myself and keep playing how I’m playing at the club and that’s it.

“Everyone dreams, when you’re young, of playing for your country and it would be a huge honour for me.”
