Former Sydney FC striker John Aloisi has praised the recent appointment of Graham Arnold as Head Coach and believes the Sky Blues will be at their Championship best next season.

Speaking at Sydney FC major partner IGA-s penalty shootout world record attempt, the former Sky Blues marquee is excited by the recent signings the club has made and believes they bode well for the future of the Hyundai A-League.

“I think it-s a great appointment, Graham Arnold,” Aloisi said.

“He was successful at the Mariners and I-m sure that he will make Sydney FC into a powerhouse again.

“The signings of Ibini and Shane Smeltz are great signings. Ibini, a young promising player, showed towards the end of last season what he can do again back in the A-League and Shane Smeltz is a proven goal scorer so I think they have a strong squad.

“It-s exciting to see any squad bolster their playing roster and making sure they-re ready for next season and the good thing about it is there is a lot of talk still about the A-League even though the A-League is finished,” he continued.

Aloisi feels the two new signings will work well in tandem and will be lethal in the front third and believes the Sky Blues will be in contention for silverware next season.

“I can see them [Ibini and Smeltz] pairing up well,” said Aloisi.

“Ibini obviously has the pace and Smeltz is probably more of a box player now but give him the ball in the right areas and he-ll score goals so I think they can create a powerful strike force,” he continued.

“Everyone knows that Sydney FC is a massive club and you want to see them up the top competing for a trophy and you can see that the club is trying to do that.”
