Season 2013/14 of the Hyundai A-League has been a stand out for Sydney FC midfielder and Iraqi international Ali Abbas.

The versatile left footer has played every minute of every game for the Sky Blues, notching up 2430 minutes of playing time, excluding the finals series, and has been noted for his determined, never give up performances.

A trademark of Abbas- season has been his willingness and ability to slot into any role requested of him.

The 27 year old had a successful stint at left back early in the season before shifting to the left hand side of midfield, where he combined to great effect with Alessandro Del Piero, as well as a short cameo in the middle of the park to boot.

Abbas- versatility and attacking insights saw the Sky Blues midfielder have the highest number of touches on the ball this season, with 1816 touches, as well as the highest passing accuracy in the team with 81.6% of all passes finding their destination.

Abbas notched up two assists throughout the course of the regular season, however his highlights for the year are undoubtedly his two goals; the first a penalty against the Western Sydney Wanderers to hand the Sky Blues victory in the Sydney Derby and the second a long range screamer from outside the box against the Wellington Phoenix.

The 2007 Asian Cup winner was rewarded for his efforts with a new two year deal in February, keeping Abbas at the club until the end of the 2015/16 season.

His efforts throughout the course of the season didn-t go unnoticed by his peers and admirers who voted him at the Players- Player of the Year and Members- Player of the Year for season 2013/14.
