Sydney FC marquee striker Alessandro Del Piero has been ruled out of Sunday-s clash with Wellington Phoenix due to a hamstring injury.
Scans have shown that Del Piero has suffered a low grade strain to his hamstring during the 0-0 draw with Melbourne Heart on Sunday but on a positive note the scan cleared the Italian of any tear in the hamstring.
“Scans have shown that Alessandro has suffered a strained hamstring so he will not be travelling to Wellington for Sunday-s game,” said Sky Blues coach Frank Farina.
“It-s a long flight and with time differences it-s not an option for him to play. The positive news is that there is no tear but we will re-evaluate how the injury has progressed and what we do going forward next week when we get back in to training.”
Sydney FC will train tomorrow for the last time before departing for Wellington on Saturday morning ahead of Sunday afternoon-s vital round 10 clash with the Phoenix at Westpac Stadium.
