It-s always one of the most anticipated games of the year but for Sydney FC midfielder Peter Triantis the first game of the 2013/14 pre-season will have even more significance.

The 21 year old will line up against some old school friends when the Sky Blues take on Belmore United on Wednesday night, in a game that will bring back plenty of memories for the youngster.

“I-ve grown up in that area and went to school with a few of the Belmore lads, so to go back there and see them will be interesting,” said Triantis.

“A few of them have messaged me saying ‘watch out next week-, and a few of their families and mine are coming down to have a look.”

Most of Sydney FC-s new look first team squad will play a part in Wednesday night-s match at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (kick off 7pm) and Triantis is hoping for a good turnout from supporters.

“I think it-s a good chance for a lot of fans to come out and see our new philosophy and the way we-re going to play,” he said.

“It-s our first pre-season game so it will be a good hit out.”

Having broken into the first team from the ranks of the youth team squad last year, Triantis is hoping to take his career to the next level during the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season.

However he knows he will have some tough competition with the likes of Terry McFlynn, Brett Emerton, Hagi Gligor, Rhyan Grant and the returning Nicky Carle vying for a central midfield role.

“We-re at a very big club, probably the biggest in the country and I-m very grateful I-ve got that opportunity,” he continued.

“I know if I put in the hard yards then the coaching staff will back me, but really it-s up to me.

“I expect competition and it-s the same for every player in the squad.”
