During the off-season Sydney FC are looking at the league in numbers as we highlight the statistics of some of our key players throughout our record breaking 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

As one of two out and out strikers for the Sky Blues in the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season, Shane Smeltz finished as Sydney FC’s third highest goalscorer as he helped guide the club towards a Grand Final appearance.

Playing 21 games for 998 minutes, Smeltz scored a total of eight goals (five with his right foot, two with his left and one with his head) as he demonstrated the same lethality inside the box that has earned him two A-League Golden Boots, a Johnny Warren Medal and second place on the all-time goalscorer’s charts.

Of the 19 shots Smeltz took at goal, 12 were on target, as the New Zealand international finished the season with a conversion rate of 42.1%, scoring a goal every 124.8 minutes.

When tasked with holding up the ball and distributing, Smeltz holds an enviable passing accuracy of 80.9%, completing 228 of his 282 attempted passes, as he finished the season with three assists from his 26 chances created.

Tracking back to assist with defensive set pieces, Smeltz won 22 of his 41 aerial duels while making seven interceptions and also winning 12 out of his 12 tackles.

Having re-signed with Sydney FC for a further two years Smeltz will be looking to build on his debut season with the Sky Blues as he chases silverware both domestically and in Asia.
