During the off-season Sydney FC are looking at the league in numbers as we highlight the statistics of some of our key players throughout our record breaking 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

Joining as an injury replacement player in January of 2015, Mickael Tavares soon established himself as a lynchpin of Head Coach Graham Arnold’s squad in the Sky Blues’ charge to the Finals Series.

Playing in a deeper lying midfield role, Tavares was tasked with cutting out opposition attacks whilst also supplying from deep as the Sky Blues surged forward at every opportunity.

Tavares played a total of 12 games for Sydney FC, starting each one, for a total of 924 minutes of playing time.

The former Fulham FC and Hamburg player made a total of 20 interceptions, winning six out of seven aerial duels, while also making 14 clearances and winning 27 tackles.

Going forward, Tavares completed 433 of his 488 attempted passes for a passing accuracy of 88.7%, making 47.5 passes per 90 minutes played, while creating five chances on the way to the Hyundai A-League Grand Final.

Tavares’ form in the latter half of the season earned the Senegalese international a new two year deal with the Sky Blues, keeping him at the club until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

“Mickael is a quality player and his attitude and application since he arrived in January have been fantastic,” Head Coach Graham Arnold said.

“He has fitted seamlessly into our club and the quality he’s shown on the pitch has left me in no doubt about his importance to the team.”
