During the off-season Sydney FC are looking at the league in numbers as we highlight the statistics of some of our key players throughout our record breaking 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

Joining the Sky Blues as an injury replacement player in January, Senegalese international Jacques Faty established himself as a fan’s favourite during his 10 games in the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.

Faty played for a total of 767 minutes, starting every game he played, as he forged a formidable partnership with Matthew Jurman at the heart of the Sky Blues defence.

Making 41 clearances, Faty proved a solid defender as he won 10 out of his 12 attempted tackles whilst also making 17 interceptions and winning 13 out of his 18 aerial duels.

Playing the ball out from the back, Faty completed 279 out of 335 passes for a passing accuracy of 83.3%. When distributing in his own half of the field, the former Marseille defender’s passing accuracy rose to 90.7%.

Faty created three chances going forward and holds a 100% conversion rate with his sole strike at goal finding the back of the net as he opened the scoring against the Wellington Phoenix in round 23, setting the Sky Blues on their way to a 3-0 victory.

Sydney FC Members and fans will looks forward to further solid displays from the centre half as Faty was re-signed for further year for the 2015/16 season in May 2015.

“I’m very pleased to have secured Jacques for another season,” said Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold.

“This is a crucial signing because of his quality and his leadership, I think it was clearly seen when he went off in the Grand Final that the team lacked leadership on the field and that’s what we have now with Jacques’ experience.

“He is a great player to have in the group and in the dressing room and brings great professionalism to Sydney FC.

“Jacques has proved to be an excellent defender as well and will strengthen our defensive stocks as we venture into Asia and build on our record breaking season.”

Faty will return to preseason training with the Sky Blues in mid-July.
